TGIF 2.7

Thank God it’s Friday……ay..a.a.a

I am grateful for quotes; I have found myself keeping a collection of my own quotes—who knows where they will land tomorrow, and with my name attached to them. I may even receive royalty for some of them. Y’all should catch this vision with me; I will be the “sayer” and the reader will be the “sayee”. (Roc nwantiti, we need to set up this dictionary website).

I came across this quote from J Ogden Armour and it sounds so true “Most men talk too much. Much of my success has been due to keeping my mouth shut”. Even my bible talk say “talking too much get K leg ” (Proverbs talk am, even Isaiah  58:13e talk am too). So for this weekend, learn that you don’t have to have an opinion for everything. You don’t have to comment on everything. You don’t have to talk too much. Sometimes, swallow your words.

I am grateful for knowledge. There’s this excitement that comes when you realize you have had a revelation or you have learned something new. I received new insights from the bible this week and I’m grateful for that.

I am grateful for life; ever since I started this series, there’s always news of someone who had just passed away and today is no exception; it just came to my notice that our dearest “king of pop” Michael Jackson is dead. If you have been following up on actress Farrah Fawcett—she also passed away this morning. I read about a young guy (in his early 30’s) from Kogi state who committed suicide ‘cos his fiance/girlfriend dumped him. So sad, may their souls rest in peace and may God grant their families the heart to bear the loss.

A friend of mine narrowly missed death this week, but his closest pal couldn’t escape, so, he has been mourning the loss all week. For all those who have missed one near death experience or the other—take out time to offer a silent “thank you” to your maker.

I am grateful for birthdays this week; had three friends that clocked a year older each. Happy birthday to all June babies. Be grateful ooo, what would happen if a year was removed from you, instead of added for each new birthday?

I am grateful for  freshness or “so fresh, so clean clean”. I saw a picture of someone I used to know and despite all the designer clothes he threw on his body, he still looked wornout and all I could see was “hardship” written all over his face. If you are going through any sort of hardship, stress, recession and yet you can smile/laugh or look presentable or look fresh or look your age or……you know what I mean……just be grateful to God, for not everyone can pull that off. Go to your mirror and when you are done looking at yourself, whisper “damn, I look good”. *excuse my french*

I am grateful for Afrocouture; The new designer is repping Naija or Africa. She and her partner are trying to merge African attire with western designs; show some love to this budding designer and check out her blog.

I am grateful for good movies that give you good laugh. I haven’t been to the movies in a long time, but I managed to pick up “the proposal” by Sandra Bullocks (don’t ask me how I did it). I am recommending this movie. It had lots of good jokes and good laugh—no wonder it was no 1 in the box office. I had few bones with the ocean scene and the barn wedding scene, but apart from that, it was a good movie and wasn’t entirely a chick flick. Also managed to watch “the shopaholic”; ok now, that is a correct chick flick. If for anything, watch it cos of the cute English guy with his cute English accent—I sooooo love English accent.

In this season of recession, I am grateful for jobs. I had a friend complain so much about her inability to secure a job, even an internship job, but all I could think of was “thank God for people who have jobs”. If you have any kind of job that bring you income, please take out time to say a silent “thank you Jesus”

I am grateful for the gift of forgiveness “how long will you harbor malicious thoughts within you?” says my bible. Therefore, for this weekend, try to seek out the good in people you come across, for it’s not easy to ruin someone’s life when you find out how wonderful they are.

If I’ve by any chance wronged you….forgive me.

Have a great weekend y’all and take out time to think of the words from Danny’s post “will the person you are today be proud of who you were yesterday. Are you working towards the person you wanna be tomorrow? Will the person you are tomorrow be proud of who you are today?”

  9. And set it up we will.. hopefully.
We’ll just get AfroGeek to sort out the SQL and database queries, and I’ll take care of the rest. And you’ll supply all the words. Na so FB start.. lol.
PS. Out of curiosity is ‘nwantiti’ a real word? As in is it igbo or something? Or is it just a slang?

Your phrases are stuff I live by, I just have different quotes as my favorite. For –

“Most men talk too much. Much of my success has been due to keeping my mouth shut” I usually say “I prefer to keep my mouth shut and allow people think I’m a fool, than to open my mouth to confirm it..”

And for – “how long will you harbor malicious thoughts within you?”
I prefer – “You can’t drown a person, without getting your own hands wet” Either way you lose.

Great post as usual. I’ll shut up now. 🙂

  10. Great words to ponder on…

  12. Hey there. I just watched “The Proposal” and I loved this quote too: “It’s not easy to ruin someone’s life when you find out how wonderful they are.”

I was searching for that quote in Google, so I came across your blog. Nice post. Nice message too. I was kind of enlightened. Thanks and good night! God bless. =))

    • @seven11–First and foremost, I like the name seven11; it has a ring to it. I hope you laughed as much as i did while watching the proposal. There’s some truth in that quote. Thanks for stopping by my blog and for commenting too.
