Ask Naijagirl 1.0

Dear Naijagirl,

I have been saved for years and I will say I am a decent Christian, but sometimes last year while alone, I went into online porn out of boredom and curiosity. I have succumbed to the same temptations couple of times afterwards. The urges make it seem all nice, but I know it’s wrong. Just the other day, the urge came again and I knew I needed help. I know is wrong and I know I shouldn’t do it, but I don’t know what to do. Last time it happened, I prayed a lot about it and even after watching it, I had strong distaste for it, but I still had the images floating in my head before they disappeared. Please, what should I do?

Dear saved girl,

I applaud you for your boldness in confessing and for your willingness for a change. You must understand that the first day you delved into porn, you opened a door for satanic agents/demons to come in, which is why, you still find yourself having those same urges and going back into the same cycle. To break this cycle, you will need deliverance prayers to be made over you. There’s no temptation that has befallen man except that which is common to man, and God is faithful who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but in every temptation, he will make a way for us. Temptation is common but you must overcome.

What is it that is drawing you into porn?  When you have discovered it, run away from it. Joseph ran from his boss who was trying to seduce him and he was esteemed by God. If there are people around you that always talk about sex or instigate it, it’s advisable you stay away from them until you get control of your mind again. If you know staying alone is gonna push you into considering porn, then find a way not to be alone. Since you said you fall prey to online porn, you might try fasting from the internet, while you get control of your mind. Most acclaimed Christians are not going to watch porn in the presence of others, therefore, if you must get online, do so in the presence of others; this will help to keep you accountable.

Flee from sexual imaginations; Pornographic thots or images are gonna fly by but don’t let them dwell in your mind. Take captive over every thought of yours and make it obedient to God in accordance with 2corinthians 10: 5, when the thots come, rebuke the thot and the devil that is bringing it. At the same time, begin to speak positively to yourself and find a way to channel your thots into something worthwhile. If it requires moving from the position where you were sitting to another, hurriedly do that, and remember, “you are an overcomer”

Prayer: Heavenly father, I thank you for the life of your child and I thank you, for you know this individual more than I do. Lord, I pray in the mighty name of Jesus that you deliver your child from porn. Lord, you said that whatever you did not plant shall be cut down, therefore Lord, I command that whatever has been planted into this vessel of yours that is not of you, let it be uprooted right now in the name of Jesus. Devil, you have no claim over this life, I command you to lose your grip in the name of Jesus. I use this child as a point of contact to reach other Christians who are going through the same problem, Lord as you deliver this child of yours, deliver them. Lord, in accordance with your word, deliver them from evil and help them to see the way you have made for them, in times of temptations. Lord, I hide this child of yours and his mind in you. I boldly confess that your child has been delivered from this problem in the name of Jesus.

Porn is a topic that most people shy away from but it’s connected to church going, holy ghost filed, tongue speaking Christians (male and female). It starts small and before you know it, it has grown big. Growing up, pornographic images and videos were things you rarely find in your everyday life, however with the advent of technology, you can stay in the comfort of your own room, and a porn image or invitation or video just comes on as a pop up. That it flies by, don’t mean you have to allow it to perch or get rooted in you. If you don’t nip it at the bud on time, it becomes disastrous. You look at people like Ted Bundy and you understand what porn can do to a person’s mind.

I’d encourage us all to share these new series with others.
You made a very valid point about not being alone. It always helps to have company, as an idle mind is a fertile breeding ground for demons…
Bad addictions have a spiritual dimension, and should be tackled spiritually too as you’ve put it.
Thanks, this is another value adding post. God bless you.
By the way, this blog has just got a dedicated reader!! 🙂

@ Saved girl; it’s great that u’ve taken the first step by admitting that u do have a problem/issue…as NG said, avoid staying alone while on the internet, at least for now, and alienate anyone who encourages such habits around u…most importantly, PRAYER is the master key…find scriptures relating to the topic (sexual immorality in general) and pray using them…may God give u grace to overcome…cheers

  12. nice one naija girl..
@saved girl..the Lord is ur helper..

  13. Like Sassy said, it is everywhere now, in different degrees. In the name of keeping current with jist, some magazines can say and show the most erotic pics that will not leave your memory for a long time. Just last night I was so annoyed/disapppointed with myself for picking up such a gogo (gossip) magazine. But I’m glad for the experience, because it reminded me toguard my heart, bcuz garbage in = garbage out. Flee from what weakens you like you said. (And once you confess to God, cleanse your mind with His Word). I’m really loving the “Ask NaijaGirl” segment. Talking about it is lik accountablity.

And yesss, can I expect a thankful post from you soon?? You have a way of making people feel better and more thankful, so…

  14. (Blogger is out for me tonite oh! I cannot find my comment :-X

  15. oh, sorry for blaming blogger. Twas just slow.
    Baibai!

  16. Just stumbled on this blog and good views here. While I realise that the views here are targetted at singles – is it ok for married couples to watch porn or when does watching porn become an addiction for couples ?

My wife and I watched Joni Lamb’s series on this stuff a few weeks back and we are still confused.

  17. @Tigeress….thanks
@aloted…..yes, different addictions; thanks a lot
@Doyin….Thanks Doyin and for the advice too
    @Simeone…thank you
@Cider…lol, I am glad you figured it out. Thanks for the accountability profit (helps me and helps others too). Thanks for the garbage in garbage out
@Daniel….Thanks for stopping by and for leaving a comment. I would say porn is porn, it dont matter who is doing it. In some cases, the consequences are harder for married couples cos it could break up a marriage. I watched a series where married couples who were tied up in porn (both male and female) were confessing the negative impact to themselves, their marriage and family. The married folks in church are not free from this; porn is everywhere and if its not nipped at the bud on time, its going to grow into bigger stuff. Like the little foxes that run around the vineyard destroying stuff.
